IF YOU’VE BEEN on Facebook recently, the chances are one of your friends has posted a video something like this.

By ‘like this’, we mean with their face lip-syncing along to some kind of famous quote.

So, um, what’s this all about?
These are videos from Dubsmash, a new video-sharing app which lets users select a brief audio clip, then film themselves lip-syncing along to it. It was released in October, but has been gaining traction ever since.
And it’s now pretty much taking over. Last night it was trending worldwide on Twitter.
But what’s the point?
Dubsmash sells itself as a messaging app: “the fun way to communicate”.
The idea is that you select an appropriate quote from a range of categories…
… then share. (You can share by message, on WhatsApp, or by uploading to Vine or Instagram.)
So it’s big?
Pretty big. People are sharing. In their droves.
So much so that the app is getting the only true hallmark of success: a backlash.
Basically, Dubsmash is your new reality. Welcome.
