Gardaí in Naas have issued a gas leap day proposal warning for single Irish men

“This is not a matter that the local Garda station can help you with…”

IT’S FEBRUARY 29TH, and that can only mean one thing every four years – it’s leap day.

Which, as the country knows, was traditionally the best day for women to propose to the special men in their lives.

And the Gardaí in Naas issued some serious advice on the topic last night:

Gardai in Naas are warning single men to be on the lookout tomorrow for any women who may approach them in a sinister fashion. They may be in posession of a small, ring-sized jewellery box and might look like they are about to throw themselves to their knees.

They have experience of such incidents previously, so know what they’re dealing with:

Incidents like this last happened in the area almost exactly four years ago and the unfortunate male victims still haven’t recovered. There is no escape really so just take it like a….. well like a man really. This is not a matter that the local Garda station can help you with so either run and hide, don’t leave the house or else just say yes!!

The wise words were posted to the community Facebook page last night – and have since gone viral, with more than 7000 likes overnight.

The Gardaí ended their statement with one final plea:

Let us know if there are any victims locally to this 29th February onslaught and good luck to any “attackers”

Hear, hear.

Good luck out there to everyone involved <3.
