IRELAND’S FAVOURITE HAIR colour has gone from blonde to red over the past year according to a survey carried out by cosmetics firm Garnier.

The Nutrisse Ultra Colour Shade of the Nation survey has found that ‘Fiery Red 6.60′ is now the nation’s preferred colour, a big change from 2010 when ‘Natural Blonde 8.03′ was the winner.

We’re not sure what all those numbers and decimal points are about but the survey of over 1,000 Irish people’s attitudes in an Empathy Research poll did tell us that women with red hair are identified as most confident, most fun loving and most spontaneous.

The survey found that 60 per cent of Irish people voted red heads the fieriest, 45 per cent said that red heads are the most spontaneous and 30 per cent believe that red heads are the best in bed.

But it isn’t all good news as red heads were seen as the least honest and genuine.

Thirty-three per cent of men said they were most likely to associate red-headed women as a short-term girlfriend compared to women with other colours. Indeed, half of men who were surveyed said they felt red heads were most likely to make them feel mischievous.

Other colours

Perhaps these Irish men should stick with brunettes, with 49 per cent of respondents identifying those with brunette colour to be most genuine, 44 per cent said they were even-tempered, and 41 per cent said that brunettes were the most intelligent.

Nearly half of the men surveyed said they identified brunettes as future fiancées or wives.

The survey also found that blondes were considered the most likely to steal your boyfriend with women with blonde hair identified most with the one-night stand (55 per cent).

Black-haired women were considered the most self-sufficient and ambitious with 57 per cent of respondents identifying women with black hair as being the highest earner.

The survey also found that celebrities hair colour had a big influence on what colour women chose while almost a third of participants said they changed their colour after a break-up.
