YOU MIGHT HAVE spotted something called Google Fortunetelling floating around social media today. It’s a tool that claims to be able to tell you your future.
Users are invited to ask any question they may have about their future while Google examines old search data in an effort to try predict your future.
With our latest addition to Google we try to experiment with fortune-telling. Based on your previous search results and your profile, we try to make a good prediction of your future.
But wait, all isn’t as it seems…
As you begin to type a question, these are the questions that come up.
And you are promptly redirected to this page where you are told that Google Fortunetelling is merely a project aimed at creating awareness of the ongoing refugee crisis in Europe. (In fact, it doesn’t seem to an official Google initiative at all.)
Users are encouraged to donate time, money or love to charities aiding with the crisis.
With this project we want to create awareness. We need structural solutions on political level for this growing European problem. Please feel free to donate your time, money or love and spread the word.
