IMF official sent to Dublin survived multiple shooting last year

US authorities still searching for former IMF employee they believe shot Ashoka Mody several times outside his home in the US last year.

ONE OF THE IMF OFFICIALS now in Dublin, Ashoka Mody, was allegedly shot by a disgruntled former employee just over a year ago, according to the Irish Daily Star.

“Tough guy” Mody was shot several times in the jaw and upper body as he parked outside his home in Bethesda, Maryland, the Washington Post reported early last October.

The IMF economist, originally from India, was discovered slumped in his car by his wife. She was at home at the time of the incident, but was not hurt.

The masked gunman fled the scene on foot and US authorities said in January that they were seeking a former IMF economist in connection with the attack.

The Wall Street Journal reported that Mohau Mercy Mathibe, 36, from South Africa, spent two years working at the IMF as part of an economist programme which serves as a kind of trial for permanent positions. He worked for Mody during that period.

US police have issued an arrest warrant for Mathibe, whom they said had fled to China about a month after the shooting.
