A look back at some of the first tweets of Irish celebrities

Some cared about An Post while others cared more about Justin Bieber.

THOSE OF US who joined Twitter in the late 2010′s probably didn’t really understand what we were signing up for. Twitter has developed a lot since then with increased characters, increased trolling and racism and increased doggo content.

With that in mind we decided to take a look back at some of our favourite Irish celebrities first tweets.

1. Rozanna Purcell

Rozanna joined Twitter in 2010 when she was competing in Miss Universe which her first tweet seems to be referring to. I didn’t even know there was Miss Guam. The more you know.

2. Louise McSharry

The 2fm DJ and beauty writer was talking in the 3rd person for a little while. She wasn’t the only one. Who among us didn’t write about ourselves in the 3rd person for a little too long on social media?

3. Chris O’Dowd

The actor and proud Roscommon man took to Twitter in one of the more cryptic first tweets I’ve come across. Deflowering what exactly? Who deflowers anything at 1am?

4. Bressie

Joining Twitter in 2010, Bressie was keen on tweeting about his music and seemed somewhat confused by the whole thing.

I don’t know what a creaming hook is but Bressie seemed excited about it anyway.

5. Graham Norton

The beloved TV host and self described white wine lover waited 2 whole years after joining Twitter to give us his first tweet in 2011. It truly was a gift too.

6. Vogue Williams

Vogue’s first tweet was simple. She didn’t want Twitter taking over her life and honestly it’s what we all wanted, somewhat in vain.

She’s also one of the only Irish celebrities to mention bruschetta so early on in her Twitter life.

7. Leo Varadkar

Leo’s first tweet was about An Post which seems oddly fitting somehow.

The link in the post is now dead but upon clicking it, I did discover something interesting.

Whoever designed our Taoiseach’s website can’t spell oops. Better get the Strategic Communications Unit on that. That €5 million won’t spend itself.

8. Amy Huberman

Our favourite ‘hopscotch enthusiast’ announced herself on the platform back in 2010 with a tweet that should have got more love. A lot of work went into that.

9. Conor McGregor

‘The Notorious’ wasn’t actually in control of his Twitter account when the first tweet was sent. He was fighting in ‘Cage Warriors’ which according to a later tweet was on Setanta. Those were the days.

10. Dermot Bannon

Our favourite architect only joined the platform in 2016 but his first tweet is very sweet and cute. You go Dermot.

11. Alison Spittle

The star of ‘Nowhere Fast’ and podcast host with the best laugh around appeared to join the platform just to request a song from Reggie Yates on BBC Radio 1.

This is what Alison was looking for.

12. Brian O’Driscoll

There’s not much to say for BOD other than the fact he joined the platform a year before he actually sent his first tweet. He didn’t put in as much effort as Amy anyway. We’re disappointed.

13. Dara O’Briain

Dara’s first tweet seem to describe a rather awkward encounter with Carol Vorderman. As you do.

He second tweet was much more Dara.

14. Niall Horan

Good old Niall was tackling the most important issues of 2010 with his first tweet. It’s definitely out there anyway. He was just going his best for all the Beliebers.
