IF YOU’RE IN any way familiar with YouTube, you’ve probably heard of the likes of Jenna Marbles and Smosh, who both have an insane amount of subscribers.
But what about the Irish crowd? Do we get a look in?
Here’s our pick of eight that should tide you over.
1. Brian O’Reilly (BriBryOnTour)
Brian O’Reilly is a singer/songwriter from Dublin who created a YouTube series ‘Things To Do Before I Die’ back in 2010. The series saw him skydiving, streaking, and causing a scene during a college lecture.
With 244,452 subscribers, he has more than Jedward, Two Door Cinema Club, Westlife, and even our state broadcaster RTÉ. So now.
2. Clare Cullen (Clisare)
Possibly best known for her Shite Irish Girls Say video, Clare is from Mayo and posts a new video every week, often parodying an aspect of Irish life. She’s currently doing an ‘Irish Bucket List’ which has seen her visit Father Ted’s gaff and attend a redhead convention. Standard.
3. James Mitchell (JamesMitchellTV)
James isn’t shy, and his YouTube channel certainly reflects it. He makes both sketch videos such as Shite Irish Gays Say and vlogs that showcase him as a master of TMI. Seriously.
4. Leanne Woodfull (LeanneWoodfull)
Leanne is one of Ireland’s biggest beauty and fashion vloggers, and probably one for the women. She posts videos of make-up reviews, clothes ‘hauls’ and her life, documenting her jaw surgery and on the topic of body image.
If it’s beauty you’re after, others include Tar Mar, Dazzledust25 and LetzMakeup for more ‘out there’ creations.
5. Chris Green and Peter Ganley (Epicnewsdaily)
These are more commonly known as the ‘two Irish lads that watch stuff’ and sarcastically comment on it. We’ve previously featured a few of their videos, it’s like Gogglebox for YouTube clips, but they sometimes do street voxpops too.
6. Seán Burke (TheBonkers101)
This talented impressionist is probably best known for his Bear Grylls parody. Burke also posts videos of his spot-on imitations of the likes of Ricky Gervais, Ben Stiller and Jesse Pinkman, as well as creating sketches such as a concerned video for Concern workers. What a gent.
7. Sean Connolly (TheSonicScrew)
Sean is an lad from the West coast who’s YouTube channel gained a following for his dramatic readings of pop songs such as Gangnam Style and Blurred Lines. His day-to-day vlogs– like his trip to Dingle– are also worth a watch.
8. Shifts (11Shifts11)
These lads are a sketch collective from Skerries who should really upload more videos. They were recently featured on the Republic of Telly, so maybe that explains it. Their best sketches are those that follow a couple of extremely eloquent northsiders as they describe their romantic endeavours.
