JK Rowling had a brilliant response to being asked how she balanced writing and motherhood

Now *this* we can get behind.

JK ROWLING IS an icon to many women.

Not only is she responsible for one of the most beloved book franchises ever, but she also managed to write Harry Potter when she was a broke single mother. What’s not to love?

As such, people often turn to Rowling to ask, “How did you do it?”

Today, a mother of a one-year-old baby got in touch with Rowling to ask how she balanced writing with motherhood… and Rowling had the sassiest reply.

And it doesn’t seem like she’s joking either.

In a 2001 interview with the BBC, Rowling acknowledged that she basically ignored hosuework while writing Harry Potter.

Everything was just very very dilapidated and always filthy which wasn’t the flat’s fault — it was normally my fault because people very often say to me, “How did you do it? How did you raise a baby and write a book?” and the answer is, I didn’t do housework for four years! I’m not Superwoman, and living in squalor that was the answer.

Now that’s some refreshing honesty we can get behind.
