Hoax

This story about Leonardo DiCaprio moving to Galway is going insanely viral - but it's not true

Sorry, Galway.

BACK IN NOVEMBER, a story about Leonardo DiCaprio declaring his fondness for Limerick women was widely circulated on the internet.

Though it was quite obviously a hoax, the news spread like wildfire and was carried by numerous media outlets.

Now there’s another Leonardo DiCaprio-based rumour doing the rounds.

This time he’s moving to Galway.

Per News Now 11:

In a huge surprise to everyone in Los Angeles, actor Leonardo DiCaprio reveals in a new interview that he is moving to the Galway, Ireland area. DiCaprio tells the magazine that he is “tired of the L.A. lifestyle” and is looking for a big change in life.

The news has been met with great excitement and has been shared by Facebook pages like This Is Galway and The Latin Quarter Galway.

Meanwhile, The Galway Advertiser shared it on Twitter and Lovin.ie published an article on it.

People desperately wanted to believe it.

Unfortunately (and perhaps unsurprisingly) there is no truth to this rumour.

A disclaimer on News Now 11 explicitly states that it is a “satirical and fantasy website”.

newsnow11.com is a satirical and fantasy website.  None of the articles on newsnow11.com should be considered true and are simply works of satire or fantasy meant for entertainment purposes.  The satirical and fantasy articles on newsnow11.com poke fun at our celebrity obsessed cultures and the politically correct world we’re forced to live in.

A quick Google search throws up dozens of similar ‘news’ articles about Leonardo DiCaprio moving to weirdly specific places.

In conclusion? Leonardo DiCaprio won’t be gorging himself on Supermac’s just yet.
