Love/Hate is heading to Hawaii

Watch out for the Five-O, lads.

HOW DO YOU say coolaboola in Hawaiian?

An adaptation of Love/Hate for American audiences is reportedly in the making.

However, rather than being set on some of Dublin’s gritter backstreets, it’s heading for the warmer clime of Hawaii.

Boston crime writer Dennis Lehane has told US media that he is adapting the series for American audiences.

Boston Magazine reports that the series will be set in “drug-ridden Oahu”, while The Hollywood Report calls it “a gritty Hawaii that tourists don’t see”.

Lehane, whose parents are from Ireland, is author of Shutter Island and Gone, Baby, Gone, both of which were made into films.

The Love/Hate remake will be broadcast on the Showtime network.

The hugely successful RTÉ series has been sold to Hulu, Netflix and Amazon in the United States, is being dubbed into German and French for European Netflix.

Season six is “in production” but that it won’t be broadcast on RTÉ until 2016.
