This luxury Cork hotel made a wonderful gesture to locals affected by flooding

What an offer.

PARTS OF CORK have been devastated by floods overnight, thanks to Storm Frank wreaking havoc with torrential rainfall.

One hotel, the five-star Castlemartyr Resort, posted this generous offer on Facebook this morning and have been receiving an influx of good wishes and support.

The goodwill has been liked almost 5,000 times, with many commending the hotel for the gesture to families forced out of their homes.

It was all the good will and quick thinking of general manager Cathal Lynch. He told DailyEdge.ie that the decision to take in families was an easy one.

It’s a small community, and we’re a community based hotel. We felt it was the best way to embrace the community by opening our doors this morning.

The damage done to homes by the floods has been extensive.

There are two families in particular staying with us who have been devastated by the flooding. These families from Castlemartyr have water up to the ceiling, it’s devastating.
They’ll be staying at the hotel for two nights to beat the worst of it, with a potential move to the golf resort if they need any more help.

Cathal tells us that other hotels in the area such as the Garryvoe hotel have also teamed up with them to help keep up with the demand and take in locals.

We’re taking in as many as we can along with neighbouring hotels, it’s a tough time of the year with New Years but we’re doing our best.

As for the response to the post, he says they weren’t expecting the influx of praise, and the support on social media has been “humbling, to be honest”.

Well done Castlemartyr, more of this.
