IT’S WELL KNOWN that President Michael D Higgins is a big fan of both Galway United and the League of Ireland in general.
So, as is often the case, he pitched up to Eamonn Deacy Park last night to watch his team take on reigning champions Dundalk.
It’s always an honour to have the President in the house
Where else would you get it?
Galway took the lead, only to see the match levelled up with a David McMillan equaliser – as Dundalk started to dominate the game.
Concerned faces
But, in the 93rd minute, Gary Shanahan blasted a late, late winner for Galway and the crowd went wild.
Luckily, Twitter user @kilduffs had the camera out for the big moment – because he caught Michael D giving it socks in the stand
Brilliant.
Everyone loves a last minute winner – even when you’re the President
What a sight
And it sums up both the President and the League of Ireland beautifully
Scenes indeed.
