IT’S A DEBATE that has rumbled over the past few years – are leggings pants?
Some people are resolute in their belief that, yes, leggings are pants.
While others disagree.
In Montana, lawmakers have just implemented a strict dress code for members of the Montana State Legislature. The rules, approved by Republican lawmakers, stipulate that members must dress in “business formal”.
For men, that means a suit or dress pants. For female members, that means a suit or a suit-like dress.
The dress code also contains this warning:
Leggings are not considered dress pants.
It also encourages women to be “sensitive to skirt lengths and necklines”.
Some members of the state legislature are not happy about the new rules. Representative Ellie Hill described them as archaic and told The New York Times:
It’s like something out of Mad Men. The whole thing is totally sexist and bizarre and unnecessary.
In addition to declaring war on leggings, the dress code forbids denim and categorically states that there are no casual Fridays or Saturdays.
We know some people that wouldn’t adhere to such a dress code…
Tell us: are leggings pants?
