A political pundit just ate a book live on Sky News because he got his Corbyn prediction all wrong

Well, some of it at least.

MEET MATTHEW GOODWIN.

He’s a Professor of Politics at an English University and a well-known political commentator on Twitter and beyond.

Why’s he in the news today? Well…

At the end of May, with Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn gaining momentum in the polls, Goodwin was adamant that the polling wouldn’t play out in the actual General Election.

So adamant was he that he sent this bold tweet

OK, so he really believed that Corbyn wasn’t going to hit those numbers.

Well… by Friday morning the news was in. And sure enough Corbyn had secured the fabled 38% of the vote (40% in actual fact)

So now.

We had a situation on our hands.

Soon enough, the calls were coming in for Matthew to eat his book

If you make promises on the internet, you have to live up to them

The pressure was building.

This morning, Goodwin sent out a tweet that seemed to be promising

And yes, it happened. At approximately 4.30pm this afternoon, Matthew appeared live on Sky News with his book. And started chewing some pages

This is where we are

Sky News’ caption seemed disappointed that he didn’t scoff the whole thing:

This man just ate (some of) his book live on Sky News after making an incorrect #GE2017 prediction

We’d have more questions about whether any page *swallowing* took place.

Still, Goodwin delivered on his promise – and sent an excellent tweet straight after

Next time, he won’t be so quick to include eating challenges in his political predictions.
