No, that reporter wasn't peeing on live TV (and social media 'owes him an apology')

Here’s what was actually going on.

OVER THE WEEKEND, this clip from NBC news went viral all over the world.

In it, the anchor tries to hand over to correspondent Mike Seidel… who has his back to the camera and is just doing something rather suspicious-looking.

Naturally enough, the internet assumed that he was caught having a wee on live television. (Hey, we’ve all been there, right?)

As the Mail Online observed, he “appeared to be playing with his pants”.

Well, he wasn’t. And his associates at NBC were miffed on his behalf.

Mike Seidel’s colleague, central NBC anchor Brian Williams, was very upset by all the kerfuffle. So much so that he took to the airwaves yesterday to clear it up, saying:

Social media owes our friend Mike Seidel an apology.

He went on to explain:

Mike had lost cellphone contact with our control room so he couldn’t hear through his attached earpiece that he was on air… he had to take off his gloves and redial his phone.

Ah.

Surprisingly enough, a couple of people have actually apologised.
