THERE’S ALWAYS BEEN plenty of talk about Ed Sheeran’s ~varied~ selection of tattoos.
His topless boxing in the Shape of You video even showed he had a signpost that says ‘Galway’ on his lower body:
And on Sunday night, a curious new layer of intrigue was added to Ed’s tattoo catalogue:
Speaking on stage to the audience in Glasgow, Ed talks about how Saoirse Ronan was supposed to handwrite ‘Galway Girl’ on his arm for a “tattoo” but she intentionally misspelled it as ‘Galway Grill’
The video, taken by @leg0_h0use at the gig, shows Ed telling a story about the shooting of the video in Galway last week:
When we were filming it I meant to get a tattoo of her handwriting saying Galway Girl from her point of view.
It actually says Galway Grill. G-R-I-L-L. She really took the p**s out of me – full on.
I haven’t actually told anyone that yet. I’m actually quite proud of her. It’s the kind of thing I would do.
Now, a few observations:
- Was this just part of the video or did he actually get this tattooed on his arm while in Galway last week?
- Somebody needs to inform the actual Galway Grill takeaway that Ed Sheeran might now be a walking advertisement for their grub – if not in real life, then in the video itself
- Is Saoirse Ronan a serial prankster? And should we expect her to become the modern day Ashton Kutcher with her own celeb pranking show?
The tattoo is being widely reported as being legit by the tabloids in the UK based on those quotes alone – and fans think it’s real too
There are three options, really:
- The tattoo is real – and Ed now, ludicrously, has ‘Galway Grill’ on his arm for life (the least likely option, let’s face it)
- He’s talking about a scene from the Galway Girl video and we’ll be able to spot the little spelling mistake when it’s released
- This is all just a bullsh*t story like the Princess Beatrice fiasco
We await confirmation.
