A grassroots movement among female directors has quickly taken hold

FEMALE FILM DIRECTORS are sharing their experiences within the field on Twitter in solidarity.

To mark #FemaleFilmmakerFriday, female directors  were asked to post a photo of themselves on set to Twitter.

Irish director Aisling Walsh wanted to send a message to young, aspiring directors.

Actor Sally Hawkins is nominated for an IFTA in her role as Maud Lewis in Maudie. Class.

Catastrophe’s Sharon Horgan joined in to heap praise on her fellow female creators.

Some big names wading in, sure, but the hashtag is for everybody – even the little guy.

Lesli Linka Glatter, a director who’s worked on Homeland, Masters of Sex, Mad Men, Twin Peaks and Pretty Little Liars said the playing field needs to be levelled for future generations.
