Actress Shirley Temple dies at the age of 85
The former child star died at her home in California.

THE ACTRESS SHIRLEY Temple, who shot to fame as a child star in the 1930s has died at the age of 85.

Temple’s family have said that she died at her home in California yesterday evening of natural causes.

In a statement her family said:

We salute her for a life of remarkable achievements as an actor, as a diplomat, and most importantly as our beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and adored wife of fifty-five years.

Temple began acting at the age of three,  starring in films like Bright Eyes, Stand up and Cheer and Heidi. She carried on acting into adulthood, before running for congress in 1967.

She served as US ambassador to Ghana and Czechoslovakia and as Chief of Protocol of the United States.
