Bops for Yes

13 songs for Yes that you need to get you through to May 25th

We’ve designed the perfect playlist.

WE ARE TWO weeks out from the referendum which means we are into the final stretch of campaigning. Both campaigns have set out on tours of the country in a bid to get through to the undecideds and get their votes.

As we know, music is a vital part of any tour bus and given that the next two weeks are going to be long and hard, we thought a decent playlist was something very necessary.

Here are 13 songs to get you through to May 25th.

1. Focus – Ariana Grande

ArianaGrandeVevo / YouTube

I know what I came to do and that ain’t gonna change, so go ahead and talk your talk cause I won’t take the bait.

Ariana there describing everyone’s attitude to dealing with the other side. We’ll be taking a lot of inspiration from her in the next 2 weeks.

2. Respect – Aretha Franklin

TatanBrown / YouTube

‘All I’m asking for is a little bit of respect’ and you know the opportunity to have bodily autonomy. You can also just spell out REPEAL instead of respect. Whatever works for you.

3. All Fired Up – The Saturdays

TheSaturdaysVEVO / YouTube

Catch me driving to the polling station on May 25th with this blaring on full volume from my tiny Opel Corsa.

4. Can’t Hold Us Down – Christina Aguilera

CAguileraVEVO / YouTube

So what am I not supposed to have an opinion? Should I keep quiet just because I’m a woman?

The answer to both of those questions of course is no.

5. Lorde – Team

LordeVEVO / YouTube

A slower song to remind you that everyone has each others backs and that if you need to take a break for any reason then that’s fine. Lorde has got you!

6. Body Talk – Foxes

FoxesVEVO / YouTube

A very simple message in this one to be honest.

7. Toxic – Britney Spears

BritneySpearsVEVO / YouTube

*Side eyes the 8th Amendment*

8. Shut Up and Drive – Rihanna

RihannaVEVO / YouTube

A good one for anyone who is coming home to vote or using any method of transport to get to the polling station. You heard Rihanna. Shut up and drive!

9. Whenever, Wherever – Shakira

shakiraVEVO / YouTube

This song is a perfect depiction of me offering to talk to people about the referendum at any hour of the day.

10. Body II Body – Samantha Mumba

Richy Jassal / YouTube

Of course we can’t say if Samantha is up for Repeal but this song could be changed to ‘Bodily Autonomny II Bodily Autonomy’. Some might accuse me of trying to shoehorn an agenda in here and they would be right.

11. If I Were A Boy – Beyoncé

beyonceVEVO / YouTube

‘If I were a boooooooooooy… I wouldn’t have to campaign for my riiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiights’

12. Don’t Stop Believin’ – Journey

journeyVEVO / YouTube

‘DON’T STOP REPEALIN’ HOLD ONTO THAT FEEEEEEEEEEEELIN’

13. Snow Patrol – Just Say Yes

SnowPatrolVEVO / YouTube

It’s the most obvious one but come on Ireland, just vote yes.
