Music

I am a sucker for 2000s hip-hop. Some of it is shockingly bad but some of it can pull you out of any bad mood. It can also teach you valuable life lessons like what usually brings the boys to the yard or the benefits of putting a thing down flipping and reversing it.

TV

Pilot Heather Wines Heather Wines

For ages my six year old dictated that I watch Paw Petrol, PJ Masks and Doc MacStuffins. I have no idea why, probably out of boredom, at some point I let him watch an episode of Father Ted. I know it’s wrong but he loves Ted and specifically Father Noel Furlong more than any animated character ever created.
I’d recommend everyone watch Sneaky Pete on Amazon Prime.

 Film

groundhog_day1

I rewatch Trading Places and Groundhog Day A LOT. I feel no guilt about this what so ever.

Book

I have to read a lot of books for the podcast which makes reading for fun a rare treat. Karl Geary’s Montpelier Parade was amazing and Declan Murphy’s Centaur blew my mind. But I read both of those for the podcast so there is an air of panic in reading them. Jeff Ross wrote a book called I Only Roast The Ones I Love. I laughed a lot reading that. It’s basically a book about how to take the piss out of people lovingly.

Podcasts

Here’s The Thing With Alec Baldwin, Fresh Air with Terry Gross, the annoyingly consistent Second Captains, Trumpcast from Slate.com, and everything Headstuff produces is world class. I could keep going. I listen to about 24 hours of podcasts a week. It’s an addiction.

Social Media

I’m trying to come off social media. It is devouring my life one police video at a time.

Food

I recently found out from a dietician that I can’t eat food any more. It’s a real bummer because I like all food especially carbs. They told me I had a high sensitivity to carbs. I mean, how rude is that. To tell an Irishman he can’t eat potatoes. After everything we’ve been through!

Jarlath Regan is a stand-up comedian and host of the wildly popular podcast An Irishman Abroad. Regan can be seen at Kilkenny’s Cat Laughs next weekend, where he will be recording a live episode of the podcast with Aisling Bea, Jack Gleeson and TJ Miller. More information and tickets here.
