Three arrested over Rooney 'blackmail' plot

A “five-figure” sum was demanded of Coleen Rooney after she lost her camera phone – which contained photographs of her 15-month old son.

THREE PEOPLE HAVE been arrested in connection with an alleged plot to blackmail Coleen Rooney for a “five-figure” sum.

A group attempted to extort the money from Rooney, wife of Manchester United and England star Wayne Rooney, after she lost her camera phone at a concert. The phone contained photographs of her 15-month-old son Kai, reports the Telegraph.

Rooney had been at a Black Eyed Peas concert in Manchester when she accidentally left her phone in a private box.

After Rooney had been contacted by the alleged blackmailers, the authorities were informed; three people, two men and a woman, were subsequently arrested in a police sting operation. It is understood that those involved had attempted to sell photographs to media outlets, the Press Association reports.

The couple’s spokesperson, Ian Monk, said they took their son’s privacy very seriously.
