What to watch on TV tonight: Friday

Here are the shows that’ll be on your Twitter timeline later.

EVERY WEEKDAY lunchtime, DailyEdge.ie rounds up the TV shows that you’ll be tweeting about tonight and talking about tomorrow.

The Late Late Show (RTÉ One, 9.35pm)

Aengus MacGrianna has been plucked from the RTÉ canteen to guest on the Late Late Show tonight, in the frankly unlikely company of acting legend Omar Sharif. Tubridy will also have Jim Sheridan, Dara O’Briain, and the family of tragic Dublin teen Triona Priestley. Expect the usual Twitterstorm. #latelate #latelateshow

Natural World: The Pygmy Hippo (BBC2, 9pm)

Three words: Tiny. Little. Hippos. One of the most endangered species on Earth, the (incredibly cute) pygmy hippo is notoriously difficult to find and is losing its habitat quickly. This documentary tracks one ecologist’s quest to film the animals. Set your squee-ometers to stun.

Gogglebox (Channel 4, 9pm)

The third season of the cult hit is approaching the end of its run. Set your box to record if you’re going out – and for maximum entertainment, simply follow the #gogglebox hashtag.

Who’s on the Friday night chat shows?

  • Graham Norton: Stephen Mangan, Jean Paul Gaultier
  • Alan Carr: Lily Allen, Courtney Love, Masterchef judges John Torode and Gregg Wallace

Everyone’s talking about: Gotham

FOX / YouTube

This week, the first full trailer arrived for this much-anticipated new series – a prequel to the Batman movies. It will feature the young Jim Gordon (aka Commissioner Gordon in the later movies) as a young detective in crime-ridden Gotham City. The young Bruce Wayne will also feature – but Batman himself is still in the future. Needless to say, the Batman fandom is AGOG.

Or switch over for…

  • Paul Blart: Mall Cop (TV3, 9pm) Slapstick comedy featuring an inept security guard.
  • Have I Got News For You (BBC One, 9pm) David Mitchell hosts.
  • GoldenEye (UTV, 11.05pm) First and best of the Pierce Brosnan Bond movies.
  • The Trip To Italy (BBC2, 10pm) Last in the series for Steve Coogan and Rob Brydon.
  • The Rolling Stones Return To Hyde Park (BBC4, 9pm) Film of the band’s massive gig last summer.
