What to watch on TV tonight: Tuesday

Here are the shows that’ll be on your Twitter timeline later.

Every lunchtime, DailyEdge.ie rounds up the TV shows that you’ll be tweeting about tonight and talking about tomorrow.

Homeland season finale (RTÉ Two, 9pm)

This season – widely hailed as a return to form for the spy thriller – reaches its climax, with Carrie and Saul back in the US to deal with the fallout. There will be drama, and there will be crying, and there will be Saul stroking his beard and looking troubled.

Savage Eye compilation special (RTÉ Two, 10pm)

David McSavage returns to our screens to present this compilation of some of the best bits from The Savage Eye this year. But not that sketch about the nuns, because they’re not allowed.

Game Of Thrones (Sky Atlantic, 9pm, 10.10pm, 11.20pm)

Back at home with the family? Need to deal with some tensions? Luckily, Sky Atlantic is running several episodes of Game Of Thrones back to back, which should give you some ideas for Christmas dinner anyway.

Everyone’s talking about: The Downton Abbey Christmas special

Fresh off the back of George Clooney’s baffling appearance in this charity version, there is widespread confusion about whether he’s actually in the Christmas Day special. Well, he’s not.

So what can we expect? Well, according to the Telegraph, a festive dose of the usual heightened melodrama and barbed quips – and cast members have said that it’s heartwarming and without the sudden deaths of previous years. So there you go.

Or flick over for…

  • The Snowman (Channel 4, 7.30pm) We’re walking in the airrrrrr.
  • Michael Bublé’s Christmas 2014 (TV3, 9pm) Would you believe it’s his fourth Christmas special? Featuring Ariana Grande, of all people.
  • Christmas University Challenge (BBC Two, 7.30pm) In which Jeremy Paxman wears a Santa hat and acts cheerful. Lol jk, it’s just that the panellists are slightly more famous.
  • Mock The Week Christmas Special (BBC Two, 10pm) Dara O’Briain presents.
