What to watch on TV tonight: Monday

Start off your week with some new series.

True Detective (Sky Atlantic, 9.00pm)

New series. Nic Pizzolatto’s crime anthology returns for a third series, following a retired detective as he revisits a case that has haunted him for 35 years. Starring Mahershala Ali, Stephen Dorff and Carmen Ejogo.

Shutter Island (TG4, 9.30pm)

A US marshal, traumatised by his past, heads to a hospital for the criminally insane on a remote island to investigate the disappearance of a woman who murdered her children. As the case unfolds, he begins to suspect the doctors are hiding something – and that a grisly fate awaits all the patients on a sinister ward. Martin Scorsese’s mystery thriller, starring Leonardo DiCaprio, Mark Ruffalo and Ben Kingsley.

One Day: Ireland Cleans Up (RTÉ One, 9.35pm)

Following people who work for waste removal and cleaning businesses, including David Duff at Thorntons Recycling’s depot in Dublin and Cork bin wagon driver Jonathan Dennehy.

Everyone’s talking about: Game of Thrones

Dun dun duh-duh dun dun duh-duh dun dun …

So, we finally have a premiere date for the final series of Game of Thrones.

Game of Thrones season 8 will be hitting our screens on 14 April. A new teaser trailer shows the underground crypt of Winterfell, with Sansa Stark, Arya Stark and Jon Snow facing their own statues as a frost approaches through the tunnels.

Little is known about the last season of beyond that it will consist of six episodes.  Exciting.

  • Will And Grace (RTÉ Two, 9.00pm) New series. Grace has an accidental run-in with a curmudgeonly man she follows on Twitter, Jack’s attempts to look younger end in disaster, and Will helps Karen protect the intellectual property rights of her most prized possession.
