New U2 song begins with a sample of The Angelus

Time to down tools folks.

IN A NOD to either dinner time, pausing to reflect or for a bit of a pray, the Six One news… or all of the above, U2 have included the sound of the Angelus on their new album.

The chimes of the bells are heard in the opening seconds of the track California (There Is No End To Love).

The song has been described as part of a “trio of songs aimed at American radio” by The Telegraph while Time muses that the song reflects the loss of both Bono and Larry Mullen’s mothers when both men were in their teens.

The album, Songs of Innocence was released yesterday as part of Apple’s launch event for the iPhone 6 and the Apple watch.
