WHILE ALL THE attention might be on former First Daughter, Chelsea Clinton, marrying her banker boyfriend today, spare a thought for another American hero, Lisa Simpson.
Today, Lisa – daughter of another famed American couple, Homer and Marge Simpson of Springfield – weds her beau Hugh Parkfield, who she has been dating since March 1995.
Of course, she’s not really – not least because Lisa Simpson is, ahem, not real – but the classic Emmy-winning episode in which Lisa was shown a vision of her future where she married an English aristocrat.
The episode is considered one of the best from the show’s early series, and is even taught as material in a sociology course in the University of California Berkeley.
All of which begs another significant question: with an episode where everyone has robotic slaves that can (but shouldn’t) cry, where’s our hovercars?
