What is Ireland's favourite painting?

RTÉ’s latest reality contest hopes to increase awareness of Ireland’s rich public art collection.

RTÉ IS ON the hunt for Ireland’s favourite painting.

The broadcaster has whittled down the long list of 100 nominated works of art and has revealed the top 10 contenders.

A documentary called Masterpiece: Ireland’s Favourite Painting, which will be hosted by Mike Murphy and aired on Tuesday at 10.15pm, will introduce each of the finalists.

Each week on RTÉ One’s The Works (Thursdays, 11.10pm), a well-known personality will make a case for their own personal favourite. Programme makers hope to raise awareness of the “immense riches in our public art collections” and to encourage people to visit the works for themselves.

Murphy says that people shouldn’t be intimidated by art, art jargon or the arty intelligentsia.

“Trust your own response, your own instincts,” he advises.

These are, after all, your paintings and, in these difficult times, they are a real source of delight and inspiration on your doorstep.

So, which would be your favourite from the following short-list?
