Swish Swish Wish

We bought some more beauty products from Wish and tried them out. Here's what we thought

As usual, it was a bit of a mixed bag.

YOU MAY REMEMBER a couple of months ago I ordered a bunch of beauty items from Wish to see if they did what they promised. Some stood up to scrutiny while others (looking at you hair wax) very much did not. I’m still finding bits of that gold hair wax in my hairbrush two months on.

Anyway, this time I decided to focus on eyebrow products and lipglosses because they are the areas I needed the most help with. Here’s how I got on.

Eyebrows

Eyebrows are a department that I need a massive amount of help with. So when I saw this ink pen that was available for the small price of €1 (plus shipping) I was jumping for joy. It arrived within the month and looked exactly as described.

[image alt="" src="http://cdn.thejournal.ie/media/2018/08/eyebrows-12-296x216.jpg" width="296" height="216" title="" class="alignnone" /end]

So far so good. However, when I tried to apply it to my eyebrows, it went a bit downhill.

[image alt="" src="http://cdn.thejournal.ie/media/2018/08/eyebrows-1-296x216.jpg" width="296" height="216" title="" class="alignnone" /end]

Firstly, if we ignore my roots and the fact I forgot to brush my hair, you can see that the colour is too dark for me which is my fault. The brush itself is stiff and doesn’t bend very easily which makes it hard to apply. Not being able to shape my eyebrows correctly also added to the problem as did having wide eyebrows which I’ve now discovered is a thing.

This waterproof eyebrow gel was an absolute steal at €1 and again arrived within the month. When it arrived, I also got a little brush applicator which I wasn’t expecting.

[image alt="" src="http://cdn.thejournal.ie/media/2018/08/39911031_447867205704652_7429740934666911744_n-193x400.jpg" width="193" height="400" title="" class="alignnone" /end]

I should have realised that this wasn’t going to go well when I picked up said applicator and the brush fell off. Nevertheless, I persevered and the result was horrifying.

The gel itself was incredibly wet and as you can see made it look like my eyebrows were melting. Would not recommend.

Foundation

Ordering foundation without seeing it in person is a bit like letting a three-year-old do your make up. You know it’s risky but there’s still a tiny chance it’ll all turn out ok. I was slightly reassured by the fact that I’d ordered stuff from PopFeel before and it has turned out ok. The shipping on this cost about €4 and it arrived within the month.

[image alt="" src="http://cdn.thejournal.ie/media/2018/08/foundation-3-296x248.jpg" width="296" height="248" title="" class="alignnone" /end]

The shade matched my skin tone really well and when I put it on, I didn’t end up looking like a Nacho flavoured Dorito which I always feel is a bonus.

[image src="http://cdn.thejournal.ie/media/2018/08/39993706_452754055211808_826331568648749056_n-296x394.jpg" width="296" height="394" caption="Please%20note%20that%20this%20photo%20was%20taken%20after%20the%20eyebrows%20incident%20which%20is%20why%20they%20don't%20look%20terrible.%20" class="alignnone" /end]

The coverage is really good and it lasted all night. The best thing is that the applicator is a small brush making it easy to blend. For a cheap foundation, I was really impressed with it and would recommend.

Eyeshadow

[image alt="" src="http://cdn.thejournal.ie/media/2018/08/wish-4-4-296x276.png" width="296" height="276" title="" class="alignnone" /end]

Would it really be a Wish article if we didn’t include an eyeshadow? Of course not. With Electric Picnic coming up I decided to see if the loose pigments were any use. Sadly, they were not.

[image alt="" src="http://cdn.thejournal.ie/media/2018/08/eyeshadow-3-296x248.jpg" width="296" height="248" title="" class="alignnone" /end]

While I did not expect to have a glittering masterpiece as depicted on Wish, the pigment was pretty disappointing and did not really improve when coupled with NYX eyeshadow primer.

[image alt="39959098_178794262927879_8114487295790284800_n" src="http://cdn.thejournal.ie/media/2018/08/39959098_178794262927879_8114487295790284800_n-296x394.jpg" width="296" height="394" title="" class="alignnone" /end]

While you might be thinking ‘Rachel did you just stick your head into the jar of loose pigment to apply it?’, let me assure you that loose pigment is the actual devil. I used a brush to apply and the pigment just would not come out. A purple highlighter would have been stronger.

Lipgloss

[image alt="" src="http://cdn.thejournal.ie/media/2018/08/wish-5-4-296x300.png" width="296" height="300" title="" class="alignnone" /end]

Look I know lip gloss is something we all got excited about when we were ten but given the popularity of Kylie Jenner’s lip kits, a good dupe is always a handy thing to have. This one, in particular, caught my eye as the shipping was €2 and it promised me an outstanding colour.

[image alt="" src="http://cdn.thejournal.ie/media/2018/08/lip-4-296x248.jpg" width="296" height="248" title="" class="alignnone" /end]

It arrived in good time and the swatch looked promising. As soon as I put it on, I could feel it drying and turned almost matte. It was pretty damn hard to take off which is good news for both shifting and drinking.

[image alt="" src="http://cdn.thejournal.ie/media/2018/08/39900364_340961313113909_2163355343160082432_n-296x394.jpg" width="296" height="394" title="" class="alignnone" /end]

As far as cheap lip glosses go, it’s definitely not the worst and would be really handy for a dramatic look such as a festival.

They say you should always leave the best until last. I mean what’s not to love about a lip gloss that promises you glitter lips? How about a lip gloss that delivers on its promise?

Again the colour from this lip gloss was excellent and it dried really quickly leaving a nice matte finish. Although you could never achieve the glitter lips promised in the ad, it did deliver a decent amount which was more than I was expecting.

Please do not let the fact that I was bleaching my hair in this photo deter you from this lip gloss, it really was sensational.
