X Factor winner "to cover Damien Rice song"
HE WAS ONCE the posterboy for Ireland’s singer-songwriter scene – and now rumours abound that Damien Rice will have his song Cannonball covered by this year’s X Factor winner.
It’s an unusual but potentially financially lucrative situation for the singer, whose album O was relased in 2004 and who saw Cannonball re-enter the UK charts after it was featured during this year’s auditions for the X Factor.
According to The Sun, the finalists in the show – Little Mix, Marcus Collins, Amelia Lily and Misha Bryan – have already recorded their versions of the song.
But the paper’s source adds that the song is one of three songs being considered.
If it is chosen, this won’t be the first time that X Factor has selected a non-mainstream track for the winner – Leonard Cohen’s Hallelujah and Biffy Clyro’s Many of Horror were covered by winners Alexandra Burke and Matt Cardle in 2009 and 2010 respectively.

The reaction to the news on Twitter has been mixed, with the majority of people saying they love the song – but aren’t too sure about it featuring on X Factor:
