Blathnaid

This Meath shop's star cashier is a sassy dog called Bláthnaid

She’s paid in Pedigree Dentastix

IN THE VAST majority of cases, snatching cash from the hand of a customer with your teeth is not really considered great customer service. However, this one newsagents in Meath is home to the rare exception to that rule.

Bláthnaid, a lovely blonde German Shepherd spotted by Abe Neihum on a drive back to Dublin, is in charge of cash handling in this small shop

Abe told us “When I first presented the lady with cash, she told me ‘Bláthnaid will take care of that!’. And she did.”

Bláthnaid even barked when he initially tried to hand the tenner to the shopkeeper. Once he handed it to her, she brought it to her owner and then waited until Abe left.

He was pretty impressed by what he called a “pleasantly protective German Shepherd”.

Bláthnaid has since been getting plenty of attention on the Dogspotting Facebook group, where she’s been described as “Employee of the Year” and people have been threatening to revolt if she is not receiving a good salary and decent employee benefits.
