Pure class.

On Saturday night in Thurles, Waterford’s Pauric Mahony was clearly distraught after coming so close to levelling scores against Kilkenny. Denied by goalkeeper Eoin Murphy, there was nothing left to do but put his head in his hands after the final whistle.

The photo of Kilkenny fan Jennifer Malone from Kildare consoling the player was a pretty good illustration of what sport is all about and went super viral on social media.

Well, Mahony, as classy as ever, sent 17-year-old Jennifer a jersey and a signed poster to thank her for the support.

Her proud mum Donna took to Facebook to thank the Déise forward writing:

Well not only are the great dublin fans rewarding Jennifer with a special signed Jersey. We met Karen from club Deise the Waterford supporter’s club in Naas this evening and she presented Jennifer with a signed hurl. A beautiful framed photo signed by Pauric Mahony and the Jersey he wore on Saturday which Jennifer insisted on wearing as soon as we got in the car. Just wow.

And it doesn’t end there, Jennifer also was invited on KCLR to talk to Kilkenny hurling legend Henry Shefflin.

See, it pays to be a good sport.
