TODAY IS THE day when many people return to work, blinking and in shock, after the long holiday.

It’s a difficult process. Here’s how it goes:

1. Late-night terrors

2. Desperate bargaining

3. Bitter acceptance

4. Burning jealousy that some people are still ‘on Christmas’

5. Readjustment to the strange, alien workplace environment

6. Days-of-the-week confusion

7. Desperate fantasising

8. Disastrous mix-ups owing to your brain having turned to mush

9. And finally, despair.
