HERE’S SOMETHING to put you in a nice mood for your weekend: meet Tara and Bella, an animal match made in ele-heaven.
Elephants who have served their time in zoos around America pack their trunks (sorry) and set up home at the Elephant Sanctuary in Tennessee, where they are able to replicate the experience of freedom on a 2,700-acre farm.
Most, when they arrive, tend to find a friend with which they spent almost all of their time – largely those of their own particular breed, with the sanctuary housing a small number of African elephants as well as Asian ones.
In Tarra’s case, though, her friend “just happens to be a dog” – Bella, one of the many strays that finds an accidental home on the farm.
Nobody knew just how close the pair had become, however, until Bella picked up a spinal cord injury and found her friend holding an unusual vigil.
