afternoon tea

There's been a big change to the Afternoon Tea biscuit selection this year...

We hate to break it to you but – the biscuit with the jelly on top. IT’S GONE.

WHAT IS CHRISTMAS without a fancy box of biscuits? What is more in the spirit of the season than to fight over who gets to dive into the second layer, or snaffle the last pink wafer?

Well, it’s going to be a little different this year. The Afternoon Tea tin, a Christmas family favourite, has changed. Changed utterly.

DailyEdge.ie reader Aileen Hickey alerted us to the fact that one widely-loved biscuit was missing from her Afternoon Tea tin.

Yes, the jelly star, which up until now has taken pride of place on the front of the tin. It was gone.

DailyEdge.ie contacted Jacob’s Biscuits about the glaring omission, who confirmed it was true – the jelly star is being replaced with a chocolate wheel.

A spokesperson for Jacob’s told us that the Afternoon Tea selection has been “evolving and changing” over the past 80 years, and the jelly star is the latest to go.

While we realise that some people will be disappointed not to be able to get the chocolate/jelly biscuit we are confident they will continue to enjoy the entire range of biscuits in the Afternoon Tea tin, including the new chocolate wheel.

At least we know now, well before Christmas, well before anyone is allowed to open the Afternoon Tea tin. At least we know.
