Amy Winehouse's family 'bereft by loss' at singer's death

The singer’s mother also told a newspaper Amy was “out of it” the day before her body was found.

THE FAMILY OF soul singer Amy Winehouse have said her death leaves a “gaping hole” in their lives.

The 27-year-old’s mother Janis, father Mitch and brother Alex issued a joint statement describing their grief today after the chart-topping musician’s body was found in her London flat yesterday. According to the Daily Telegraph, the statement said: “Our family has been left bereft by the loss of Amy, a wonderful daughter, sister, niece.

She leaves a gaping hole in our lives. We are coming together to remember her and we would appreciate some privacy and space at this terrible time.

Janis Winehouse had seen her daughter only the day before, she told the Sunday Mirror. She said Amy had seemed “out of it”, but told her mother “I love you” as they said goodbye.

Janis added: “Her passing so suddenly still hasn’t hit me.”

The Winehouse family join a succession of celebrities and music industry figures in paying tribute to the singer’s talent. Daptone Records, whose artists had worked with Winehouse on several occasions, issued a statement saying: “She was one of a kind and we were fortunate to have had the chance to make music with her.

She was always gracious and a pleasure to work with [...] It is a tragedy that she was taken from us so soon when she had much more music to give.
