PREPARE TO HAVE your heart melt into a little puddle.
Last week, the world-renowned Mayo Clinic uploaded this video of Allen Zderad, a patient recently fitted with a bionic eye. Zderard began to lose his sight when he was diagnosed with a degenerative eye disease twenty years ago.
Before being fitted with the bionic eye, Zderad hadn’t caught a glimpse of his wife of forty-five years ago in over a decade.
Thanks to the groundbreaking invention, Zderad was able to get a pixelated view of his beloved wife, causing him to holler with delight and shed a few tears.
While the bionic eye — also known as an Argus II Retinal Prosthesis System — doesn’t give the patient full vision, it does allow them to see light and decipher shapes and silhouettes.
And, as you can see from Zderad’s reaction, that alone is incredibly special.
