Bread shortage

A lad in Clare has offered to fly bread out to his neighbours with a drone

Give this man a medal.

OH, HOW WE MOCKED our fellow countrymen when word landed there wasn’t a loaf of bread to be found on store shelves earlier this week, despite the fact the first flake of snow had yet to appear.

And then those flakes did appear.

And, like Smash Mouth warned us, once they start coming, they don’t stop coming, and most of us are now laughing on the other side of our faces.

Thankfully, there are members of the public who have chosen not to bask in their bread-filled homes like we would have, and are, instead, offering to help friends and neighbours out with a few slices of the doughy stuff.

Take Patrick Mungovan, for example.

An example of the person we should all aspire to be, Patrick has offered to deliver break to anyone within a three-mile radius of his Co Clare home.

And he’s doing with the help of his trusty drone.

Speaking to DailyEdge.ie, Patrick confirmed that rations are decreasing with carb-starved friends and family putting the call out for a slice or two.

“Delivered four to my sister in the video and another four to another neighbour.

Naturally enough, word has spread, with requests for deliveries as far flung as Fermanagh and orders for Tayto sandwiches increasing.

While we know we’re facing into the worst of it, there will come a time when our memories dim somewhat and we may struggle to recall how much we obsessed over slice pans following the arrival of The Beast From the East.

With that in mind, let’s take a look at the best of it, shall we?
