Chris O'Dowd quizzed Rose Byrne on Irish slang and she hadn't a clue

Of course she managed to get dirtbird.

CHRIS O’DOWD CERTAINLY likes flying the flag for Ireland.

The Roscommon actor recently explained GAA during an appearance on Jimmy Fallon, and uses most of his US appearances to promote his beloved Rossies.

Chris is currently starring in a new movie with Rose Byrne, ‘Juliet, Naked’.  It’s an adaptation of Nick Hornby’s book about a woman and her relationship with a singer-songwriter (played by Ethan Hawke) who happens to be her music-obsessed boyfriend’s idol.

The costars appeared on Vanity Fair’s Slang School series where Chris decided to inform Aussie Rose about some good ol Irish slang.

Rose tested him right back, but he had a decidedly better grasp on Australia than she did on Ireland.

She was asked what Black Stuff meant, and hadn’t a clue

She guessed ‘heroin’. Cheers, Rose.

She thought that sucking diesel meant drinking, which isn’t a bad guess

She thought the jacks meant the shits, which again, is close

Rugger Bugger? Not a notion

The video is worth watching for Chris’ impression of a rugger bugger, alone.

She DID however, manage to get ‘not the full shilling’, ‘dirtbird’ and ‘pull your socks up’.
