County Clare tries to get the highest number of Claires in one room

Claires, Clares, Clairs all came together to try and set a world record.

THE GATHERING IS giving us all kinds of interesting stories as more and more people make their way back to Ireland this year.

This weekend in County Clare they tried to do something a bit different and attempted to break a world record.

The Welcoming Claires to County Clare project set out to the try and get as many people with Claire, Clare or Clair as their first name to visit the county to see if they could have the largest amount of people with the same first name in one place and break a world record.

A weekend of activities before yesterday’s “Claire Count” took place with a fairly big crowd of Claire/Clare/Clairs assembling:

Sadly, according to Clare FM, the record was not made despite 296 Claire / Clare / Clairs being in the cathedral (the record is still held by a gathering of over 20,000 Mohammeds in Libya in 2009).

Still, they set an Irish record and it seems like they had all of the craic.

Even Irish YouTube star Clisare turned up and seemed to be having a great time:

Is there an Irish name you reckon could be gathered up in a room to beat a world record Irish style? Let us know in the comments.
