Colorado: Almost $300,000 raised online for shooting victim

Caleb Medley lost his eye after being shot at in the Aurora movie theatre on Friday. His medical bills could reach $2 million.

ALMOST €300,000 HAS been raised for a man badly injured in the Colorado shooting.

Caleb Medley, who was taking steps to become a stand-up comedian, was at the Aurora movie theatre when he was shot on Friday.

According to the website set up to help raise money for hospital treatment, Caleb was struck in the eye, which had to be removed. He is now in intensive care.

Caleb’s wife, Katie – who was not injured in the shooting – was pregnant with their son Hugo at the time. Hugo was born yesterday and mother and son are said to be doing well.

Medley’s brother, Seth, spoke to CBS about Caleb, and said that his brother is “a strong guy”. The family have been told that medical bills could reach $2 million, and Caleb doesn’t have medical insurance to cover these costs.

According to the Support Caleb fundraising site, $295,722.05 has been raised so far out of a $500,000 goal.

James Holmes appeared in court on Monday to be briefed on the charges he is likely to face in relation to the shooting.

Holmes is being held on suspicion of first-degree murder, and he could also face additional counts of aggravated assault and weapons violations.

He is expected to be formally charged next Monday.
