IT WAS JANUARY 12th 2016.
The world was busy mourning the untimely loss of one of the greatest musical artists to ever live, David Bowie. But there was one group of people who were completely oblivious to what was going on in the outside world: the Celebrity Big Brother housemates.
As everyone else was grieving a major cultural loss, the Celebrity Big Brother housemates were carrying on as normal — sleeping, arguing, delivering tearful diary room confessions. You know, the usual.
By chance, one of last year’s housemates was a certain Angie Bowie, who was married to David Bowie in the 1970s and is the mother of his son, Duncan Jones.
So Big Brother producers were kind of obligated to inform her of his death.
Afterwards, Angie took it upon herself to inform her housemates what had happened and inspired the greatest moment in Celebrity Big Brother history
Here’s what happened.
Angie was lurking around the kitchen when she got talking to Tiffany Pollard. Sensing something was wrong, Tiffany enquired as to whether everything was okay. Angie decided to open up about her ex-husband’s passing and the most hilarious misunderstanding ensued.
Angie: ”Tiffany, you’ve got to do me a favour.”
Tiffany: ”Anything.”
Angie: “You can’t say a word.”
Tiffany: ”Nothing.”
Angie: ”David’s dead.”
Tiffany: ”NO, HE’S NOT.”
*cue hysteria*
No, Tiffany Pollard isn’t a David Bowie superfan. Instead, she thought that Angie was referring to their housemate, David Gest.
(Who actually subsequently passed away three months later.)
But for a few moments, Pollard was operating under the assumption that one of the Celebrity Big Brother housemates had died.
She rushed to tell the rest of her housemates…
But it was quickly ascertained via movement under the covers that she had the wrong David.
The whole fiasco became one of the most iconic television moments of 2016.
And by far the funniest thing to ever happen on Celebrity Big Brother
It was so iconic that Tiffany even released a line of ‘David is Dead’ t-shirts… which she then had to pull when he actually died
