DESPITE BEING PART of one of the most highly acclaimed Channel 4 comedies in recent years, Derry Girls’ Saoirse-Monica Jackson clearly hasn’t let success go to her head.
In actual fact, it’s done quite the opposite, with the 25-year-old actress recently admitting that she fears she’s going to be ‘found out’.
Saoirse, who plays Erin in Lisa McGee’s award-winning TV creation, spoke to The Guardian in recent days, and made reference to her personal experience of Imposter Syndrome.
Commenting on a thought process many women fall victim to during periods of professional success, she said:
I know everybody feels this – especially girls – but I’m scared that I’m going to get found out, they’re going to say that they’ve changed their mind.
Overwhelmed by the success of the show, Saoirse explained: “I’m definitely still finding my way as an actor and as a young woman.”
In spite of this, the Derry-native said she’s slowly but surely learning to enjoy the experience more, indicating that she found filming the second series much less daunting.
Honestly, the first time around I was in a state of shellshock, and just scared.
According to Channel 4, the first episode of the second season of Derry Girls outperformed the series launch and secured the station their biggest audience for a comedy series since 2007.
