IF YOU CAME of age in the 1990s, chances are you either owned a pair of Doc Martens or spent time begging your Mam to let you buy a pair. 

After all, they were the *coolest* shoes around

A pair of Doc Martens said that you were cool, alternative, rebellious. They also said that there was a 92% chance that you had decorated your schoolbag with the iconic Nirvana smiley face.

Which meant that you *had* to have them

You squirreled away your pocket money until you finally had enough to buy them

And soon you had something to wear with your babydoll dress

Your parents didn’t always *quite* get them

But that just made them cooler.

But while you may have looked stylish, you had to go through the hell that was breaking them in


You feel like a dinosaur when you hear about them being “back in fashion”

But there’s also something about them that makes you feel utterly nostalgic

For a time when you lived in army jackets and listened to Sonic Youth.
