THE LAST THING you need the night you’re launching your brand-new podcast is for two of the biggest social media platforms in the world to simultaneously crash.
However, that is exactly what happened Doireann Garrihy yesterday when what will henceforth be known as The Great InstaBook Crash of 2019 coincided with the launch of The Laughs of your Life.
Last night was the night. I was launching my podcast, new venture, kinda scary for me and where was my friend Instagram when the chips were down and I was feeling frightened? Nowhere to be f*cking seen!
But sure look, she powered through without the help of social media, and the first episode of her first (and highly-anticipated) podcast finally landed.
As the name suggests, the podcast explores the various manifestations of laughter – from having the last laugh to being laughed at – and Doireann uses these themes to guide her guest’s re-telling of poignant moments in their life.
This week Doireann chatted with her godfather and veteran broadcaster, Ian Dempsey.
From childhood right through to present day, Ian detailed times in his life when laughter – whether joyful, bittersweet or self-effacing – was at the forefront of his lived experience.
Relatable, thoughtful and entertaining, the debut episode is sure to have set the tone for the shows to come.
And if social media – oh yep, it’s willing to lend a hand now – is anything to go by, it sounds like Doireann is onto a winner with this one.
Here’s what the public have had to say.
A really nice, enjoyable easy listen, well done @DoireannGarrihy , looking forward to the next one

Oh and a quick one for anyone who tuned in; did you also frantically mumble ‘Lisa Kudrow’ to yourself at a particular point in the show?
