The presenter who called Ed Sheeran 'a boring suck-up' has done a 180, and we're confused

Ah, here.

AT THE BEGINNING of this month, Hayley Holt made global headlines after she slated Ed Sheeran during a segment on a New Zealand morning show, TVNZ Breakfast.

Hayley and her co-stars were discussing the fact the city of Dunedin would soon be playing host to an enormous mural of Ed Sheeran – something Hayley wasn’t here for.

Sounding like she had forgotten she was live on air, Hayley went off on one.

I’m sorry, he does my head in. And then to immortalise him? He just tries to suck up to us by wearing All Blacks shirts, and now we’re sucking up to him by putting up a giant picture of his mug.

In the weeks that followed Hayley’s outburst, Ed surprisingly said he had no issue with her remarks.

I don’t begrudge her for that. I actually respect that she has an opinion.

So, the saga ended there, right? Wrong.

On Sunday, Ed appeared on stage wearing an All Blacks shirt, with Hayley’s name emblazoned across the back – an image which Hayley subsequently shared on her Instagram page yesterday.

And today Hayley took her seat on set wearing a T-shirt which paid tribute to Ed himself.

I just thought that since Ed Sheeran could wear a All Black jersey with my name on the back, I could return the favour. Is it kind of like a quid pro quo? Or is it me just sucking up to Ed Sheeran? Maybe that’s what is it. He’s the bigger guy here obviously, so I thought I should follow suit.

Unsurprisingly, Hayley’s colleagues were only mad to call her out, accusing her of backtracking massively.

I’m not actually backtracking in terms of my opinion. But I just think ‘good on him’, he definitely played the better game here, he was the nice guy and I look like the … ahem.

Laying it on extra thick during her assessment of Ed’s diplomatic response to her remarks, Hayley said: “He’s a legend and he doesn’t need everyone fawning all over him.”

Make up your mind, Holt.
