Elle MacPherson thinks we should be checking our wee for acid

Elle herself is in an ‘alkaline state’, don’t you know.

GLAMOROUS MODEL Elle Macpherson has revealed that she carries around a urine tester kit to ensure she is in an ‘alkaline state’ at all times. Er, what?

Macpherson spilled the beans in an interview with the Evening Standard Magazine when asked about the most surprising thing in her handbag:

A pH balance urine tester kit to check that I’m in an alkaline state. I believe that most ailments come from having an acidic body.

Acidic bodies?! We’ve all seen Breaking Bad! We know what happens to acidic bodies!

But before you start panicking, let’s look at the facts.

Some doctors DO test urine for acidity to check for, amongst other things, osteoporosis and kidney stones. A special ‘alkaline diet’ exists for those who wish to ‘neutralise excess acid’ in the body, and involves eating mostly fruits and vegetables.

But the medical profession is not entirely agreed on this – and according to a 2011 study published in the Journal of Environmental and Public Health, there is no evidence that following an alkaline diet reduces the risk of osteoporosis.

Your body acid is fine. Elle, it’s fine! And breathe.
