The 9 definitive fast food ice creams ranked

From worst to best (but still all delicious).

IN THE SUMMER, our beloved fast food restaurants are often used as much for their drink and ice cream servings as they are for actual food – and rightly so.

So, with that in mind, here are the top ice creams in Irish fast food joints – ranked from worst to best:

9. KFC Kream Ball

There’s nothing necessarily wrong with the Kream Ball – which is, of course, loads of vanilla ice cream with your choice of sauce in a large plastic ball – but it doesn’t have the razzmatazz of others further up the list. Even within the KFC menu, there are better ice cream delights available.

8. Supermac’s Swirly

Good. Tasty. You can have them in many varieties – Buttons, Caramel, Maltesers or Mint Aero. They are nice, but the shadow of the McFlurry hangs over them throughout your experience.

7. Eddie Rocket’s Ice Cream Cookie Sandwich

A simple idea, but one done well by Eddie Rocket’s. Delicious ice cream in between delicious cookies will only have one outcome.

6. KFC Krushems

The pinnacle in the KFC ice cream offering. Maltesers, Milkybar, Oreo or Skittles are your options – and tasty ones at that.

5. McDonald’s Sundae

The original. The standard bearer in fast food ice cream. The soft serve blended with the sauce of your choice is a go-to treat for so many out there. It has been usurped by the more modern ice cream options – but no doubt worthy of its place in the top five.

4. Supermac’s 99

The very fact that Supermac’s does a good old fashioned 99 cone is reason enough for many to enter in search of their ice cream fix. It takes things up a notch from a regular sundae you can get there – and everywhere else. The choco cone is a 99 dipped in chocolate and has proven a popular upgrade – but the 99 is always there for you.

3. Burger King Fusions

Burger King’s version of McFlurry stands up to its rival in many ways. The options of caramel, strawberry cheesecake and mint choc might be familiar to most fast food versions of McFlurry - but Fusions mix them with fine quality ice cream. An adequate substitute.

2. McFlurry

The original and still the best the ice cream/confectionarymash-up world. Crunchie, Dairly Milk, and Smarties are all household names by themselves. Merge them in with delicuious ice cream and you’re on to a winner.

1. Eddie Rocket’s Knickerbocker Glory

The next step up in fast food ice cream. Eddie Rocket’s combines their delish ice cream with cream, fruit, and nuts. Truly, the next level.
