THIS YEAR MARKS the 25th anniversary of the inaugural Féile Trip to Tipp festival.
The event, which took place at Semple Stadium in Thurles from 1990 to 1994, and then again in 1997.
From ’90-’94 Thurles became home to thousands of campers for a weekend, with many of them arrive into the town by train. Headliners throughout the year included Meatloaf, INXS, Bryan Adams, The Hothouse Flowers and The Happy Mondays.
In 1995 it moved to Pairc Uí Chaoimh in Cork City, and took place indoors in The Point Depot in Dublin in 1996 before moving back to Thurles for a one day event in 1997.
A facebook group set up to remember “the festival that kickstarted the ’90s in Ireland” is collecting memorabilia and pictures from the event through the years.
