HAVE YOU HEARD? US burger giant Five Guys Burgers and Fries is on its way to Ireland.
The fast food chain successfully opened 15 restaurants across the UK last year, with more due to open in 2015.
As reported in the Irish Times today, it now intends to open five restaurants in the Dublin area first, then expand into Cork, Limerick and Galway.
For Dublin dwellers who are looking for some variation in their (occasional, in moderation) fast food consumption, this should do the trick nicely – here are a few good reasons to get excited about Five Guys.
1. The ‘hamburger’ and ‘little hamburger’ distinction is important and beautiful
When you think of ‘little hamburgers’ you probably think of those fancy slider burgers, right? At Five Guys, a ‘little hamburger’ is a normal size burger.
A ’hamburger’ has two burger patties in it. And you can have as many toppings as you want.
2. They say there are 250,000 possible ways to order your burger
One of them is apparently this six-patty monstrosity:
Oof. Our arteries.
3. Chips are the only side available
No faffing about with slaw or beans or croquettes. Just chips, either Cajun spiced or with salt only, AKA ‘Five Guys style’.
4. The portion sizes are notoriously large
This is a small chip.
5. Everything is freshly made there on the day
Five Guys UK boasts on its website that there are “no freezers” in any of the restaurants, just coolers. Impressive.
6. It’s Obama’s favourite burger place
Five Guys first opened up in Washington, and that’s where Barack Obama discovered it. Good enough for POTUS, good enough for us.
7. Because this review of a Five Guys burger is everything
And inspired this amazing Autotune parody. Altogether now: “Oh my goodness, oh my damn…”
