THE LATEST EPISODE of Game of Thrones was the saddest yet, as fans said goodbye to another beloved character.

In the final moments of the episode a host of characters, including fan favourite Hodor, were killed by the White Walkers.

Hodor’s death was doubly devastating as, earlier in the episode, we finally learned his backstory – and importantly, why he could only say ‘Hodor’.

There has been a huge outpouring of love for Hodor and actor Kristian Nairn since the episode aired in the US last night – fans are tweeting tributes to Nairn in their droves:

Even his co-star Isaac H Wright (AKA Bran Stark) had to admit that his character majorly fecked up:

But Nairn has told Entertainment Weekly that he “couldn’t be happier” about how Hodor went out.

I couldn’t have asked for a better goodbye to a character I love. My favourite part is it ties up the question of why is Hodor ‘Hodor’. Why does he say the word ‘Hodor’? Only George RR Martin or David and Dan could have come up with this. It’s incredibly sad. The minute you finally learn something about Hodor, they kill him!

What can we say but Hodor? Hodor.
